Decapitate my PT (ROPS)?

7ft garage door.....7'6" PT: the math just doesn't work!

Now I have all these mod's I'd like to play with over the winter, also I think the PT would be better at moving snow than the H (Farmall), so maybe removing the ROPS for the winter is the logical solution.

On the other hand, than I'd need to rerigg my lights and whatever other hassles, not to mention not having ROPS.

Opinions? Anybody had or have similar quandry?

I'm hoping that Pequeajim will ring in on this thread. He removed the ROPS on his 425 earlier this Summer. You could also try to PM him.

As I recall, he reported favorably in terms of less sense of top-heaviness, "tippiness" with the ROPS off. It would be good to learn of his ongoing experience if he has left it off.

You might think about how you can modify the rops to where they could, fold down, slide down, maybe twist down, any way you get the idea. I just wanted you to maybe consider other options than taking them off. Could you post some pics of you ROPs. Power tracs weren’t very clear. I couldn't tell how they were mounted. hey. what about rasing the roof or lowering the floor? PT door in the back????

You could replace the ROPS uprights with hydraulic rams, add an electric solenoid selector valve, then lower it and raise it with the joystick. Of course, if you did it wrong, it would act like a trash compactor and squish you into the seat! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Maybe not such a good idea. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm lucky in that our little shed has 8' doors and the large garage has almost a 10' overhead door. I can fit our large IH in there, let alone the tiny PT425, whose ROPS is only about 5' 8".

How about a couple of pics from the outside, showing the door opening , possible headroom, even type of floor. When we say 7 foot doors, that usually refers to regular overhead garage door, possibly with an opener. I see on the 2445 picture of the control panel that your Rops has square uprights bolted onto the frame or special brackets. It looks like a great challenge.

It's just the three bolts on each side for removal, but I'd have to chase the wiring too. And I'd want to mount something for lights.
