Decent non-China trailer tires ?

I have never had any luck with bias of any brand.

Chris

All my trailers have Bias 6ply or more tires except of a very light, small landscape trailer which has passenger radials bought from a friend when his Toyota Corona was totaled in 1984...

The only tires I have taken cross country are the Highliners... all the others are used within 50 miles of home.

...........

Travelover - I don't know Detroit very well. If I was coming in from Port Huron, can you suggest a Costco location for the north end of suburban Detroit ? From a quick look at the site, Sterling Heights area seems to be the closest.

I need to get by Costco here today anyway, I'll see what Canadian ransom they want if they will play ball.

D.

I went to Google maps and typed in "Costco near Port Huron, MI". It looks like the closest ones are Shelby Township and Roseville. You do need to be a Costco member to shop there - it is a warehouse club.

Thnx for checking - I think the Shelby one is in Sterling Heights - certain map names I remember - Shelby makes me first think of Carroll (sp?), Sterling Heights is a name I will keep straight, at least for a little while....

I checked with my Costco in Ontario, they used to deal with trailer tires, but don't bother any more (satellite city of Toronto, they probably already are making more money than they know what to do with from just cars/light trucks).

I always top up, every time I'm "down south".

My hope is that our pols will quit yanking up our gas taxes when they drive our economy into the ground, but then again, I'm an optimist !

Ok, a curve ball changeup.....

Anybody use Kenda, specifically their LoadStar K550's ?

Tires Supplier - Kenda Rubber Ind. Co., Ltd. - Taiwan, Asia, Automotive tires, Light Truck Tire, Motorcycle Tire

I know these are bias ply, but I figure what the heck, since major brand radials don't seem to last more than 2 seasons, could these be any worse ?

Just considering everything.... I have a chance to get these locally, new, on new rims for $90.

Kenda Karrier Load Star 175/80r13 LR D 1610 lb per tire @65psi

these came on my camper when we bought new it last summer, I have upsized to 14" wheels and tires for better load capacity and speed rating ( Kumho 185/82R14 LR D 1874 lbs per tire @ 65 psi )

I have 4 of the Kenda's 2 on Alloy wheels ( less than 250 miles ), 2 on non matching steel wheels, never on the ground( spares ). all 5x4.5" lug

LR D would be great, but NC is a long way from me and shipping into Canada is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Thanks for posting that, it will be a good deal for somebody.

Many folks on http://www.hilotrailerforum.com/ seem to often rebuild older units, that might be a good place for you to post a pic.

Short Version: finally got my Greenball Towmasters last weekend !

Long Version:

I found a deal over the winter on Kenda Loadstars, new, on new rims - decent price, for Canada.

Fast fwd about a month, I'm at my buddy's shop as he's prepping his single axle enclosed trailer to take his son's race bikes on a run to North Carolina - about a 14 hour drive from here.

He'd run Kenda Loadstars for just one season. One trip to Alabama, then race weekends around the province here. Tread depth was fine, but the tires were done - broken belts. Tires had proper inflation, trailer was not overloaded.

Looking across the top of the tread was interesting, as it was kind of like looking at stadium seating the way the tread rows were stepped vertically. Never seen anything like it before. The tires hopped up and down about 1", with the broken belts.

I'd never installed the Loadstars I bought, so I was able to return them.

Ordered the Towmasters from trailerandtruckparts.com (parts division of Shadow Trailers),picked them up last weekend.

Thanks again for the 411 Chris !

I'm planning some RV trips this year, will try and remember to update this link sometime during season II.

I put KUMHO radial 857 14 in tires on my boat trailer because they were the only load range D tire available going to 15 in was really a option as the boat is a pain to load and unload as it his (24 foot Maxim Cuddy) trailered all over ohio, tn , Ky with the 6000lb boat on board not problems or adverse wear.

Running goodyear RST load range 235-85-16 on my Sundowner LQ trailer working well

Very happy with them
