Deciding between MX5400HSTC cab vs MX6000 HSTC cab - $1800 difference in cost

With all things being equal, I would go with the smaller machine and use the price difference for an emissions delete kit, that way I didn't have the emissions jink while also gaining way more HP and fuel economy for the extra money spent.

You're asking the wrong guy. I started modifying my new Kubota week 1 of being brand new out of the crate. I know other guys who have deleted brand new Kubotas as well.

I wouldn't modify emissions on a new tractor. Why void the warranty ?
If your against emissions just buy an older tractor without them. Save tons of money and have your emissions free machine.
That's a different thread

Do these tractors use DEF? I looked at a 7060 and decided against it because it used DEF, but I don't know about their other models.

You might not but many do because they want a new tractor of a certain HP but want it without emissions. Nothing wrong with that if you can afford to give up the warranty.

From what I understand, DEF is only required on current machines 75+ hp.

My MX has a particulate filter, no DEF. 54 hp does all the work, mowing I need.

Get the MX6000.always get the highest hp in frame size
I'm in the opposite camp, unless he really has a need for the PTO hp? KISS for long term ownership, and my theory is that I'd rather stress an under stressed diesel a bit more, and then have less hp working the HST and drivetrain more under their maximum capacity when I'm using the tractor like a bulldozer with the box blade on. Then you aren't tempted to push stuff around in mid range, and the engine will start to make it known that you are at the limits, instead of merrily cooking your HST with the engine pushing it into pressure relief more often.
I think it makes the tractor a bit more idiot proof, which I think I need sometimes! ;)
I doubt there's any differences in cooling for the HST for the extra possible load between the two.
Now if a round baler is possibly in the future or a huge mower or bush hog sized to the max, then maybe the hp starts to pay off? Running a 4x5 round baler is only time I've been hp limited, and maybe the extra 8hp of the biggest engine available would've helped? Or maybe not. Doing hay with a 2 ton tractor probably isn't the best idea with any amount of hp though.

Thanks. I think you're right, there aren't backhoe rental options just as an attachment.

Physically the tractors are identical, one is just tuned for more HP.

And maybe I'm not even picking the right tractor. I have some culvert to install and some stumps to remove and an area of trees (Chinese privet) to clear beside my garage. I don't want to have regret of having an expensive tractor in the yard but still have to hire out for those projects.
