Deciding whether or not to buy this tractor

/ Deciding whether or not to buy this tractor #11
I am contemplating selling some of my BCS collection to make more room and to buy some other implements. I have a 737 with a Honda 13hp and new clutch bought from Earthtools with less than 3 hours running time, a 30 inch sickle bar mower, a 26" tiller, a 28" Zanon brush mower, and a snow blower that I'll throw in for free. The sickle bar is a splined connection. All the other implements are late model tapered 3-dog interfaces. A spline to 3-dog interface is included. For sickle bar mowing, I especially like how the 737's reverse lever is quickly managed which makes mowing in tight places much easier, say mowing around a pond or in a thicket where the forward and backward moves get made in short motions instead of flipping a longer reverse lever as seen in the later BCS models.

Farmerbill you probably couldnt find that grillo because I thought it was in Statesville, NC when it actually was in Statesboro, GA....only off by about 5 hours and 2 states.

THAT would have been PERFECT!! And that was a great price too! Doesn't surprise me that it's sold.

Just one other thing - if you do find another Gravely like that, look for a "model number" on the mower deck. It will be in the casting of the shaft that runs from the spindle back to the PTO on the tractor. You're looking for a "106" in the model number. That's the better shaft assembly. They are pretty plentiful so chances are good that one that you'd run across would be that model.

Also, you might run into a "clam shell" deck. It has more of a curve from front to back. All I really know about them is that they're the newer models. I don't know about their durability as compared to the older style decks like the one shown in the ad.

I just bought the BCS that was in Spartanburg, SC that you mentioned in this posting. It will definitely need some work but everything is there and it came with a riding seat, mower, sickle, plow and tiller. I am excited to start restoring it asap, good luck to Tangwystel
in your search!

When I think of maintaining a forest trail, I'm more inclined towards a kohler powered Gravely with the 30" brush deck than any sickle mower. Also think a Gravely will be more affordable and easier to find. Just stick with the Kohler powered models.

Tangwystel,
Here is a Gravely down in NC that has been on CL before in the last 6-8 months or so. Also, there is Gravely shop in nearby Hillsborough, NC (close to Durham) that sells alot of used Gravelys. I think there name is Kings.
Gravely Professional 12
There is also another Gravely Pro 16 for sale in the Farm/Garden section of Raleigh CL, might be same guy. I'm partial to BCS b/c they are still in production and have lots of atttachments via Earthtools, but the old gravelys are still pretty popular.
