DECISION TIME DJ 790 OR KUBOTA L2800

I am new to this site and have taken in some great information. I will be field mowing 5 flat acres, clearing snow, and light landscape. Both of these tractors look perfect for the jobs, but the lift capacity on the JD 790 is only 815 lbs and the Kubota is almost double. I have not decided yet on a 5 ft finish mower or a rotery cuter and will probably add a 5 ft box blade. Any pros or cons to these two tractors please help. P.S. both tractors have a FEL.

What made you decide on only these two? Have you looked at others as well?

A few years ago I was in your place the decision was between the JD 790 and a Kubota L3000DT. I purchased the Kubota for a couple of reasons.

Number one was the lift capacity you have mentioned. The other was more of a personal matter, the front tire diameter was larger on the Kubota. If and when I got in the mud I figured the bigger diameter tires would mean more ground clearance. I think the Kubota may be a few pounds heavier than the JD which hepls in the traction area.

I have been very happy with the Kubota.

My neighbor has a JD 790. I know this ruffles a few feathers everytime it's mentioned, but he, as well as I think the loader a bit light duty on the 790. I understand that there is another model loader available for it. His is the 70 model. Other then that, the 790 is fine, actually, even with that it's fine, but when you end up comparing features, it's one area that 790 just comes up a little shorter. For mowing, the 790 works very well, especially with the loader off. I know nothing about the Kubota model you mention other then my Kubota has to have one of the smoothest, quietest, clean burning diesels made. Rat.

I say go Kubota. But, first look at a New Holland TC30. Before you decide, drive all three and compare features. They are probably priced within $1000 of each other across the board.

I considered all three of these tractors before I obtained more land and bought a larger machine.

I would check out the 990 too. You don't see them on dealer lots very often (I never have, I ordered mine without seeing one) but it is a lot more capable and not much more than the 790.

To look at the 990 have you looked at the features of a 3400 or 4300?

Thanks so far for everyone's input. The JD 990,3400 and 4300 are a bit more then I would like to spend and might be overkill for my needs. I am leaning towards the Kubota L2800, but still looking.

There u have it! u seem to know what is best FOR U, that is the most important factor, which do u like best and what seems right for u ?

Is there a major price advantage by going with the Deere 790? If not, and the Kubota is a generally stronger machine then I would say you're leaning the right way. Might as well get as much tractor as possible for your hard earned $$.
