Try your local RTV dealer. Make a deal to get the unit you want delivered to your place. Tell him you will take it subject to a test drive at your place. This way he doesn't think he's just hauling it around for you to play. Settle on the options, price and delivery. Then just tell him you want to drive it in the conditions it will be used and if all is fine you'll write the check. How can he pass on that deal unless he's not sold on his own unit.....

Gipper,

Welcome to TBN.

I'll echo what most have said here about the RTV.

On the RTV, why did you choose the rec model over the worksite?

The worksite comes with more options (e.g. the hyd. tilt bed) and costs less than buying the options and installing on the rec. model.

Another reason I prefer the worksite. Body parts are cheaper to replace (don't ask how I know...) Ask the dealer what the front grill guard costs for the worksite then sit down (so you don't fall over) and ask for the price on the same item for the Rec. model. The paint color is the only difference but they charge approx. $200 more for the latter.

As for bringing to your location for a test drive, I'd make it a prerequisite. I took the approach FL_Cracker did which was if it did what I wanted, I'll cut a check right there.

Hey bc i had a dealer tell me that the rec models would be coming with the hyd bed lift in 05.??
And when i looked at one not long ago my first thought was taking that "brush guard " off. i noted that it is held on by bolts at the lower frame??
I got to thinking one could build a better guard and maybe add a basket . i have seen one on the net but i mean build a better basket. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And one final thought ...why do kubota's parts cost so much?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have been trying the xrt and the rtv both with tracks on them, the biggest thing for me is the lack of power steering on the xrt, the one range for the transmission is really good. the intelitrac works good when in snow when you are pulling hard on a hill. the bucket seats are better for me because we groom on uneven ground alot and you can stay in your seat better, dash is better.heater & defrost is nicer, tilt wheel is nice, the xrt is quicker when you step on it, parking brake is better. know for the good of the rtv, power steering, enclosed brakes, and the aux hyraulics are available, and plus the kubota name . how many bad Kubotas have you heard about !
I would like to see the xrt with power steering, and hydraulics, and the rtv with one range in the transmission, and some better seats.
so much for my two cents.

Thanks all for your replies! I must have put something in the earlier posts that's confusing about the model I'm looking at. The Worksite model is the one I'm getting if I decide on the RTV. I want a machine that will work, and most people on this site seem to think it is the workhorse of Utility Vehicles.

The only options I'm looking at at this time are the winch, blade, and top. Are there any others I should be thinking about for a working type machine? Also, for you that use your RTV for work -- where do you carry your tools, if you have the bed full of firewood, dirt, rocks, etc.? Lack of storage space for tools is the only negative thing I see with the RTV at this time. Is it possible to mount a small tool box to the front guard?

When I ordered My Ramsey winch, I also ordered the accessory kit. This was a tree strap, snatch block, clevis hitch and a few other things. This all came in a nice, heavy made, black nylon bag. The bag was large enough to hold a basic selection of hand tools that I thought I might need. I keep the bag on the floor up against the seat, between the driver and passenger positions. This works well for me.

I hadn't heard about the rec. coming with the lift but personally, I think they should all come with it.

Why would you take the brush guard off? On impact, it can take a lot more punishment than the plastic fenders and lights. I haven't seen an aftermarket replacement for this but there are baskets that can be mounted to it.

Why do ANY OEM parts cost so much???

Gipper,

I have seen the toolbox (more of a basket really) that mounts to the front but don't know anyone who has one to give it a critique. If you're considering it, make sure it doesn't interfere with plow operation.

I made my own cargo box that has storage pockets integrated into the sides. Small stuff (straps, snatch block, hand tools...) go in there. For the bigger things (shovels, chainsaw...) I do one of a few things. Put them on the floor with the big end towards the passenger side, leave them where they sit and come back once the cargo box is empty or throw on top of the load that's in the box.

I'd say go for the windshield, it keeps branches from hitting your eyes. I'm still trying to figure out a good rack for my chain saws and brush saw and jugs. I'm leaning towards aluminum because it seems like I always load about to capacity.
