Decreasing CUT sales?

Are we approaching market saturation on CUT sales ? ie most everyone who is likely to buy one has done so ?

"Farmettes" continue to replace the large apple orchards where I live, just at a slower pace than over the past couple of years. It seems like everytime a new house germinates in a field, an expensive new lawn tractor appears within a few hours of move-in.

Within 60 days, most of the lawn tractors seem to morph into fancy new CUTs. Why people need TC45s and L-Series Kubotas to mow 5-acre lawns is beyond me. But, they continue to buy tractors. I guess with fewer farmettes being bought, fewer "small" tractors are being bought.

In our area things are a bit different. There has been only about 10,000 people in the county for years. We have an outdoorsman paradise, large rivers, many lakes, hunting (elk, deer, moose, bear, mtn. lion, turkey etc...). During the summer people boat, swim, hike and in the winter they ski, snow mobile etc.

We have been discovered up here and houses are being built on 10 acre lots and up and the people moving up are people who sold their 2bd/2ba condo in So. Ca. for whatever millions and buying their little piece of heaven here. They need a tractor and don't mind spending the money.

We are having a better year this year than last.

I have a fried who did just that a month ago. Now he's looking to buy a brand new larger CUT. He does have 40 acres or so and he doesn't want a used one. I noticed a lot of movie stars have moved up there too. Wonder what kind of tractors they'll be getting?

That's what I thought but he's in Stephensville on the West side and says it's not too bad there. But you're right in my case, that's why I stayed in the California Sierra foothills.

Deere plans to cut production 10% in 4th quarter which will result in a net cut of 5% for the year.

Doesn't answer all the questions and it is only one company, but these days how "ole green" goes is pretty indicative of the farm market in general.

Our Deere dealer just went out of business here (Laramie, Wy.) There are no new owners, either...........just a parking lot full of weeds and a "closed" sign in the front window.

Up in our area the upper panhandle of Idaho (right by canadian border and Montana border) and Northwest Montana we get what is considered mild winters by many standards (California not one of those standards). In any case, many people love the winters for all the winter sports.

We typically get a really bad winter about every 10 years and that means we are due one soon. It was about -35 for about a week 3 years ago but since then the coldest has probably been no more than -5 and during the summers up to about 98 degrees.

People still keep coming and sales are staying strong.
