BTW, as with most of the economy utility tractors of that day, that is a non-synchronized transmission. You clutch and stop to change gears. But that may not be an issue for you either.

It's pretty level here, and I don't envision any real need for shifting on the fly (I can't do that now when I brush hog with my 8N), so I don't think it'll be an issue. If I need to do anything along those lines, I can always use the LS in a pinch, but I don't foresee it happening.

Those are some tough little tractors, you shouldn't have any problems out of it. I'd try to get them down on the price some, or ateast a complete fluid change and service.

I thought of some of that....nearest dealer is 20mi away (max). Prices are hard to sort out as there aren't that many listed, and most are either much rougher, or have a loader, etc. I have no worries about the engine; it's the same Perkins that they put in the 135, so they were selling them for 35+ years (135 came out in 1964 and the 231 stopped in 1999). They have a pretty solid reputation for longevity.

I didn't ask if they have any wiggle room on the price....I'd rather do that in person, likely with cash in hand.

Everything sounds good to me. My nearest dealer is around 50 miles one way.

I'm in the same boat and starting to shop. 2wd and simple gear drive is ok for a mowing tractor.
