I picked up some stuff called "Liquid Fence" at the Farm Co-Op and it seems to be working. Naturally, it rained all night right after I put it on but I didn't see the usual culprits out there. I put a second coat on so I'm hoping for the best.

Thanks,

John

Eat the deer so they don't starve. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( I see there is a dealer nearby for the Plantskyyd repellent, I think I'll try it. I also have an old fence charger laying around, think I'll string that up as well. I'm sure the fresh deer hide trick works wonders too!
I wonder if one charged wire about waist high would do the trick? They'll probably figure it out after they get popped a few times, I'll let you know.

Thanks,

John )</font>

Hang tin foil strips off the wire at 10-15 foot intevals. Put peanut butter on the foil and sit back to have a few laughs when the deer come around.

Buy you some cheap monofiliment fishing line....14 LB test at wally world. If your garden is not too large... just pound a 5' stake on all four corners and then stretch a couple lines up . Repeat this by coming out another 6-8 feet and running another set of lines. You can use a push mower around the line pretty easily.... and can just pull it up, and go under when you want to get into the garden. The 14LB is small enough it is hard for the deer to see, but I think spooks them when they push up against it. I would try this and see how it works for you , before spending a lot of money on electric fence. I have a battery powered charger and electric fence insulators sitting in a box unused....as I have been using the fishing line with pretty good success this year.

I stated this befor that I used white string, it seems the deer already KNOW what an electric fence is and want to stay way from it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif the white it easly seen and this think it is HOT. also note my place is surrounded by REAL fence as I have horse farms on 3 sides. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Update: The "Liquid Fence" seems to be working well. I harvested 11 fine looking 'maters this morning with several more almost ready. These are the first ones I have picked in the last 10-12 days. Also, no evidence of invasion, prints, etc..

I already have had the culprits visit my new Project and I have seen my "Truck Patch" is going to produce meat (Venison) as well. Since I love Venison and I am sure the people that are hungry will as well, let them come. I will use the Trusty 30-06 and Harvest the Venison /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Maybe you should harvest Venison as well. Just a thought. Maybe even call me to harvest it for you.

I usually do all of my hunting at the grocery store. I don't have the heart to shoot the deer and I don't think the game warden would appreciate the venison harvest idea. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif The stuff I sprayed on there a couple of weeks ago,"Liquid Fence" has proven to be effective at keeping them out. I am covered up in 'maters now, even the wife (Patty) has surprised me with her canning ability.

Is it true that bloodmeal and some of the other deer repellents will attract dogs/coyotes?

I'd like to keep the deer off the garden, but I'm not interested in trading deer for coyotes. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I spread bloodmeal around my vegetable garden, on the advice of neighbors, to keep the cottontail rabbits out, but never heard of it attracting coyotes or dogs. At least I never saw either take any interest in it.
