This past Saturday we came home from our annual Memorial Day trip to wifes parents,I had noticed a small tick on our sons leg.Didn't think much of it,I told him I would jump in the shower with him and help him check things out. (7 year old)

After close inspection,no more ticks,on him anyway. I found a small pin-head sized tick on me in the WORST POSSIBLE SPOT you can imagine.

Well,I got out the special tick removing device and slowly snatched it off. But the area where the tick was attached was already turning red and itching pretty badly.

No Doctors to be found until today, couldn't get an appointment, but did talk to a Nurse that would have the Doc call in an RX.

This stuff is an anti biotic called DOXYCYCL HYC,has anyone used this drug for this purpose? Any feed back would be helpful...I know I'm a little paranoid, but this Lymes Disease is nasty stuff.

The red spots and itching are normal for a deer tick bite. They usually last a couple of weeks and then they're gone.
I HATE them b*stards !!!

That drug is Doxycycline - it's a common antibiotic.

If you have any questions be sure to ask your pharmacist. Theyll be happy to tell you all you want to know.

You and me both! I am tore up at the moment. I especially like the way the little ones bite you six times before settling in. My thighs, waist and "the worst possible spot" as mentioned above are littered with itchy red marks that will last for two weeks as you said. Why don't they make a tick collar for people? And what good are ticks anyway. Does anybody know a single thing they contribute to our environment?

(Note: If I have offended the ethnic heritage of ticks anywhere...GOOD!/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

My 13 year old daughter found a deer tic on her arm last week. The spot had swelled up and was red. Our doctor took a blood sample (last monday) and yet another yesterday. Waiting for results from yesterday. Just using topical antiboitic and waiting to see if bullseye rash develop. I am told that on some people, they never get the rash but do end up with lymes months later. Rash can appear and fade in a few hours.

Thanks for the reports, found out this antibotic is a first choice for preventing the disease. In the ALDF web site, it states that "If diagnosed and treated early with antibiotics,LD is almost always readily cured".
A lot of good info. at http://www.aldf.com/Lyme.asp

I was just a little rattled when I first found that little b--tard,especially, "where" I found him. I was born and raised in a Rural Area,so ticks are nothing new to me.

I always spray our pantlegs and ankles when we're going fishing or whatever.I was'nt thinking about ticks when we went to visit the Cemetery.

Might be something to look into, tick collars for Humans,LOL...

Around this part of New Hampshire we have not been bothered by deer ticks until recently. There are two familes we know, one lives less than 10 miles away the other less than 20 both have dogs that tested positive for Lyme disease.

We had our dog tested but she tirned up negitive, thankfully. I don't like ticks one bit and most of all their favorite borrowing spots.

We had such a mild Winter in the Midwest, and a pretty cool wet Spring, that there seems to be an abundance of ticks and other critters already this season, and Summer is not here yet.

Well,I take that back,it was 95 here today,forecasting 100 by Sunday....
