Probably just patch. I would tend to think a compound bow would be a better choice for snatching a little out of season meat.

There are so many out of season hunters here that the DNR has robotized deer decoys that they set out with cameras all around. They show films of people stopping their trucks, getting out their guns, taking a shot, staring open mouthed, taking another shot, a little more staring, on goes the light, jump in the truck and speed away. Next scene, license plate photo nice and clear. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Gets em everytime. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I personally think there should be open season on deer for about three or four years or until the population gets knocked down. There was a study just done that stated that the animal responsible for the most deaths of people was deer. They stated that the population of deer right now is higher than it has ever been in history. I mean what makes more sense to have deer splattered all over the highway and go to waste, not to mention the cost of life and money, or to be on someone's dinner table.

StoneHeartFarm,

I get the NC Wildlife magazine and every issue they have a sidebar of situations that Wildife Officers have experienced.

A farmer called the WRC, Wildlife Resource Commission, and reported that people were poaching deer off of his property. The officers went out and set up a decoy deer and right at dusk a man pulled up in his truck, pointed a rifle out the window and shot the decoy. The officers made the arrest. A little while later they caught another man shooting at the decoy. I can't remember if he was in a vehicle or not. It turned out to be the farmer who made the origional complaint! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif The officers made the arrest! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

If I remember the story correctly the officers saw the farmer leave his house, get in his truck and drive out and shoot he decoy but I might be wrong about that part. Its bad anyway you look at it. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

cowboydoc,

Not sure where you heard that story about deer causing more deaths to people than any other animal but I had to butt in here. Just got done the other night watching the top ten human death causing animals and deer wasn't even in that. The #1 killer to humans per year is the mosquito. Anyone? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Got that information from the DNR, Department of Natural Resources. Mosquito is an insect. What you are talking about and watched was probably direct deaths. What this study talked about was responsibility for deaths. Deer do not directly cause deaths but indirectly from auto accidents, etc.

Richard: I agree about year round deer season. SE Iowa is over run with deer. The Iowa Army Ammunition Plant used to open up to hunters each fall and hold "deer drives", everyone who wanted a deer got one. Not much sport involved but effective in reducing the surplus population. The last few Commanders have considered it their personal hunt club and don't allow the public in anymore.

Bravo that was fast.../w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Well see I didn't see that about indirect deaths because when I saw you classified mosquitos as insects the first thing I was going to say is lions, tigers & bears oh my!. Little scene from the wizard of oz. [laughing] Anyway I got your point but was just playing. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
