I own 10 acres, about 4 of which is "lawn" about 4 of which is farmed by the neighbor, and about 2 of which has become a tangle of poplars, poison ivy, raspberries and other stuff I'm tired of trying to deal with with a chainsaw and a finish mower. Also have 600 ft gravel driveway that needs some grading from time to time, and snow plowing a couple times a year. And other miscellaneous tasks as they present themselves. So major tasks include some FEL work (clearing brush, moving gravel), back blade and a bush hog or maybe sickle bar.
I've run down two likely candidates, an early 90's 1070 (950 hrs), and a mid 2000's 790 (375 hrs). Both 4wd, both FEL, both geared. Both seem to run and shift well. The 1070 has synchros, the 790 does not. Neither looks abused, but the 1070 clearly has spent more time outdoors. the 1070 is about 500 more, but competitive.
Anything I should be watching out for, thinking about, etc? I think I'm leaning toward the 1070, just because a bigger tractor brings more possibilities. And I'm only going to put a hundred hrs or less a year on it so both should have long service lives ahead.
Thanks
