Deere 214
I just bought a Deere 214 that seems to be flooding when it is given any gas. It has been to 2 dealers and receipts show arond $1k spent trying to fix it. The carb has been rebuilt and the head gasket has been replaced. It starts and idles fine but as soon as you give it gas it starts to smoke and seems to be flooding and will stall. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like a small engine repair service would be the place to go. But there are experts here that might give you some leads.

Things like compression check would be a place to start. Maybe the engine is tired?

I'll check that out thanks. You would think that a dealer would have done that. But I guess I cant take anything for granted.

I have a 214 with a Kohler K321 engine. If you have the same engine, try adjusting the high speed mixture screw on top of the carb. One thing that I've noticed on these engs is that it is critical that the ignition points are clean, properly adjusted, and have a good capacitor. Also, clean electrical connections all the way from the ign sw to the coil and points are equally important. Verify the voltage to the coil and the resistance through the points to ground (0 ohms).

One would think that all of this would have verified to be good by a competent repair shop, but, a lot of the younger techs have trouble with the older points ignitions.
