Deere 2520 Seat Modifications

Hi Guys,

I have been looking at compact tractors for a while and kinda like the 2520 machine but hate the seat. I know a couple guys changed the seat configuration and one in particular put the L/G X-Series seat on this tractor but can't find the pics. Can the individual who made this modification post some detailed pics as I definitely want this seat on my machine and am wondering what will be involved in the swap. I do know that the seat is about $650.00 so I guess yellow vinyl is kinda expensive. Kinda have to give Massey a thumbs up for putting a great seat across the entire cut line. In the end I may go 1528 since it is a lot more machine for the same $$$ and has a great seat.

Yes the seat on the 2520 is the worst. I too put the seat from the X7 series SE model lawn tractor. You can drill a few holes in the new seat and the mount from the old seat will mount right on to it. The problem I had with that was the seat was then much taller than before and I had a hard time reaching the pedals. I am the only one who uses this tractor so I removed the seat tracks and mounted it directly to the seat frame. It still tilts forward but no longer adjusts. It is now perfect. The ride is unbelievable. Well, well worth the expense. I mow about 8 acres. I can get you pictures of my set up or I would be happy to talk with you by phone. Let me know.

I did this too, but I don't have the tractor anymore. I also cut one ring of the hard foam bumper off. That made the seat more level, and some say that helps the ride on the stock seat. JC

it all depends on the sensitivity of ones backside - since I do lots of taebo and jenny graig stuff, I find the seat comfortable as a lazy boy - and can sit in it for 10 hours straight basically (and have)

but i have heard cutting the bumber (mentioned above) does the backside a world of good. I think Chris2520 gets the kudo's for this simple fix.

I always look back to the days when tractors were shipped with metal pans as a seat - and wondered how real men did it back then without complaint? <just kidding>

Yes i cut one full ring on the foam cushion , and the seat feels
very comfy to me now. I am happy with it.....

I have to agree the seat on the 2520 is crap. It's a shame the better seats run 500 to 600 or whatever. Just after 1 hour of cutting the back is screaming for a beer.

Isn't there a cupholder on the 2520? Problem solved!

The cupholder really does nothing to solve the pain in the back from sitting on that seat. I find I need to step off the machine and move around and stretch. The irony in leaving the beer in the fridge over the cupholder is a good thing, when I need to relieve the pressure on my back I get up and go grab a beer.

Which ring on the bumper do you all recommend trimming off, and do you do all of them or just the rear?
