I looked at a Deere 4020 today with a cab. Runs and drives really well, all the glass is there, AC is non-functional but otherwise, it's complete and runs really well. They're asking $8900 for it. Buy it?

Diesel

It's 8 speed forward and has a clutch, not sure what that would be called.

2 remotes

Tires are in really good condition, they've never seen pavement and aren't very worn.

Both type 4020 trans had 8 fwd speeds & foot clutch pedal. Was gearshift pattern zig-zagged(Syncro-range) or in the shape of a "J"(Powershift)? Hyd controls on LH side of dash or RH side of seat? JD cab or aftermarket?

It was a J, controls on right of seat and factory cab.

So you have a late model('69-'72) 4020 with Powershift trans

Why would the cab detract?
Because there was no decent cab available for that tractor. The concept of an isolated cab hadn't been adopted yet, all OEM and aftermarket cabs were dropped onto open operator stations. Vibrations, noise and heat that would escape an open 4020 are retained, reflected and redirect back at the operator. They are hot, loud and uncomfortable, especially without air conditioning.
