I was leveling with the box blade this afternoon and the three point hitch failed. The lever in the cab is moving the cable but there is no movement of the rockshaft.

My local dealer is sending someone out tomorrow but I was curious if anyone had some thoughts on what has failed.

My "guess" would be a linkage or cable failure. Did the resistance of the lever change at all?

I have been told deere used a cable system kinda like the old choke cables and they are prone to failure. This system is only used on the cab models and deere is supposed to be upgrading on the newer cabs this year. Good Luck

This year as in 2008, or 2009?

UPDATE: It sounds like bad news. The dealer sent a tech to look at it today. He believes its not a cable problem but an internal one. He said he would have to open up the rockshaft housing. It should be a warranty issue but it is still a concern. I have less than 100 hours on the tractor and this is the second issue for me. THe front windshield wiper had to be replaced during the first month. I hope this isn't a sign of more of things to come.

The tractor will be picked up tomorrow and they thought they should be able to get at it right away so I should know by tomorrow afternoon what happened. I will update as soon as I know.

Man, that sucks.

What was wrong with the wiper?

Does the windshield washer spray the whole windshield? The one on my new 4520 only spray the lower part - kinda sucks.

It was a windshield wiper motor failure. It was replaced under warranty but it had been used probably ten minutes at most before it failed.

The wiper spray pattern can be changed. If you look at where the washer fluid is squirted out you can see they are little balls that can be rotated around. I used a small screw driver to adjust two of them. It now has a nice even distribution of washer fluid. Hope it helps.

Many thanks for the info about adjusting the washer fluid spray. Can't wait until tomorrow to fix mine. Always thought it had dirt or something.
That is one of the great benefits of using this forum.

OK, I will go check it out.

Thanks,

Correct on that is cable controlled...I had some business to do at the dealer on my way home yesterday so I asked about it....in all the years they've been servicing the cable control units on all the equipment, they havent had failures that were because of "Prone to Failure".....said by far the BIGGEST thing with them was adjusting them correctly.
He also told me False on them doing away with cable systems...if anything be prepared for more cable systems....it allows for better ergo, etc...
Deere isnt the only ones using Cable...my old man's L2900 has a cable controlled SCV...

UPDATE: The tractor is home. The hitch failure was due to a problem inside the rockshaft housing. Apparently, a couple of bolts had fallen out. The service tech was describing it over the phone and the conversation was brief. The next time I speak with him I will try to get a more detailed explanation.

But the good news is the tractor is resting comfortably in my shed. The thought of a weekend with no tractor bonding was worrying me.

Good for you, when you get a chance ask the tech if the rockshaft valve had an issue.
