I'm rebuilding a Deere #5 Caster Wheel Sickle Bar Mower and I'm trying to figure out what to do about the PTO shaft. I'm having a mount welded to the mower so I can pick it up with my 3pt hitch, however this will make it too far away for the PTO shaft to reach. One option is to find a 1"x1" square shaft 6ft long and modify it. Another option is to use a new type pto shaft, but the shaft in the mower is square and I'm not sure how to convert it. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I did the same thing to a #5 and I just took a length of square steel and welded it in to lengthen the PTO shaft. I use it to mow along the road right of way and it does fine for that, I haven't got the lift connected yet, still have to raise the sickle by hand lever, sure is fun running the old machine.
