I'm not so sure about Deere pricing, but Kubota is very competitively priced in my market and there is no reason for them to cut prices.

I keep reading that "such and such" is thousands cheaper than Kubota, but it just is not so in my market. Heck, New Holland has a reputation for being high priced and I bought a NH for less than a somewhat less powerful Kubota, and the Kubota was less expensive than a Mitsubishi/Cub Cadet and was basically the same price as one of the popular minor brands. It was less than a lower powered other minor brand. Heck I've seen minor brand dealers go out of business in my market. One minor brand dealer sold 2 tractors in just over a year. :(

So why would a major brand bother to cut prices when it is already competititve?

Come on Bob! It'll all be over with at midnight ;)

Yea, I knew it was a joke, but I've been a member here for several years and while some brands are sometimes known for being priced high than other, it seems to me that the better known brands are often very very competitively priced with the lesser known brands.

New Holland is probably one of the highest priced brands on the market, often higher than Deere. There is a new TC24DA with loader on my dealers lot right now for $12,950. That makes it priced very close to many of the lower powered machines offered by the lesser known brands (that is the price the dealer has on the internet so it is probably negotiable).

I often wonder how many of the comments about Deere being "very proud of their green paint" are related to the fact that maybe the shopper was simply a crappy negotiator? Or maybe the person never really got a real price but was given a list price simply because it seemed like they were just 'window shoppers' by the dealer?

There is just so much "bashing" of the brands that is acceptable before it seems reasonable to respond. And I know you were not "bashing" Deere & Kubota with this post but I figured I'd take the opportunity to toss out the other side of the story.

Heck if you closely study the specs of SIMILAR tractors on many of the machines you will find that SOME of the major brand machines blow away the specs of the minor brand machines and SOME of the major brand machines fail in comparison. Same thing seems to happen with the prices of the machines, especially when regional factors are tossed into consideration. But still it is very common to read some 'broadstroke generalities' about brands, and those are not necessarily true . . . but if you question them then you get blamed for bashing???

Then there are the niche tractors, those tractors that are somewhat specialized and people consider you a knucklehead of you even consider something like that, at those higher specialized niche prices, when their 'lesser known' brand is just as good, costs less, blah blah blah. But the users of the specialty brands know that NOTHING compares to them except perhaps another specialty task specific tractor. But the people who may be inquiring about the specialty tractor get confused because they are just researching and are now getting bad/incorrect information.

OK, I'm done with my rant.

I try to look at it this way. I've owned a couple Deere's. I still own one. At times throughout their storied history, they've had to raise prices to a level where they could turn a profit even if that meant being higher than the competition. Deere survived when at times their competition didn't. With their current compact tractor line, they're doing well enough in a good market where they can be price competitive, AND maintain their level of quality for the most part. They might actually be a BARGAIN at this point if you look at what you get for your money. Deere has a few models that are by far in a way the best in their class. In most cases, they're priced about mid-pack . In the end, it's to your own advantage to look at ALL brands with no preconceived notions of who's most expensive, or who's the cheapest until you look at the facts and figures. Deere stays in business because they know how to competitively build and sell tractors.

People LOVE to bash the other brand. "Color wars" goes back the whenever there were TWO tractors. Only thing I've ever seen that's worse is the truck pullers! (Got this employee/truck pulling superstar wannabe)

It's all entertainment.

The JD dealer did tell me that the 5303 line is coming out in MFWD (they already make them in Europe and Asia) in April or May and they would be lowering the prices.

Here in Central Illinois the John Deere and Kubota are priced about the same. The New Holland brings a bigger price because the dealers will not discount like they do with the Deere. A JD dealer will usually take off about 15% which, when I bought a 3320, was the best price of all three.
