I'm looking at purchasing my first tractor. I'm talking with the owner of a used John Deere 4100 and it seems like a pretty good deal. One of the main things I want to do with a tractor is use a tiller. So I will have to purchase one since he doesn't have one. My funds are limited though. I found a used Kubota tiller for sale locally. Will the Kubota tiller work with the 3pt on the Deere 4100?

Should be fine. If possible, take your tractor and try it on the tiller, or ask the guy if you can bring it back if it doesn't fit. I have used an old 4 foot kubota tiller before on a JD 5300 and it fit fine.

Thanks. I figured it should but you never know how one company might deal with the competition.

The nice thing about the 3ph system and PTO is that any brand of implements works with any brand of tractor, as long as each has a standard 3ph and PTO shaft (which every major brand and most minor brands have).

Not sure what model Kubota tiller it is. They have a 4 foot tiller that has an off-set so you can move it to one side to cover the tire track.

where are you located and what is the price for the used Kubota tiller. I am looking too!

I have a friend with a Kubota back hoe on his JD 750.

The deal did not work out with the tractor and the guy with the attachments was a scam. Of the ten or so ads I contacted from Craigslist all but one were scams. Probably the same person or group of people running different ads.

So I think I will end up getting a smaller Kubota with a loader/backhoe. I have approx 3-4 acres of field with a fairly gentle slope and then another 3-4 acres of landscaped property that is about half made up of fairly steep grade. The field I want to work and there are areas around the rest of the property I want to change. I have a small creek which I'd like to dig out and line and some of the hilly landscape I'd like to terrace.

I had a similar situation. Bought a new Kubota B7510HST in May05 and later bought a used 4-ft Yanmar RS-1200 rototiller ($300 from my local grey market tractor dealer).

The tiller didn't have any shear pins so I had to get a slip clutch (the yellow thing in the 4th photo). To make room for the slip clutch, I had to use the 35" long lower lift arms from my MF-135 in place of the shorter 26" Kubota arms. Then I had to add a pto shaft extender on the rototiller so the slip clutch wouldn't rub on the tiller's sheet metal. The pto shaft that came with the tiller had bad U-joints so I had to buy a short pto shaft from Tractor Supply and then cut it to fit. Ended up paying about $170 for these new components.

With these mods the rototiller works fine. Tilled the veg garden and the new lawn areas around the house with no trouble.

I mention these things to give you an idea of some of the little problems you might run into when you want to use "foreign" attachments on your tractor.
