Deere\'s first Sub-Compact.... The 655

With all the talk about Kubota creating a new market segment with the introduction of the BX series, and now everyone has a competing model. The question I ask is this: Was John Deere focusing on this possible market with the introduction of the JD 655 tractor. I don't know a lot about this tractor, but it sure does seem to fit the sub-compact segment we know today.

<font color="green">Or what about the 650? That was a 2 cylinder 17 HP diesel, category 1 hitch, in two or four wheel drive, about 44 inches to the top of the hood, 43.2 inches wide, 107 inches long. The 2 wheel drive weighed in at 1530 lbs, while the 4 wheel drive was 1640 lbs.

I have an old brochure that contains the above information. Not sure how long ago I was thinking of buying one new. At that time the 4 wheel drive with 60" rear mower would have cost me $8295.

When were the 650's being sold?

The 650's were sold from 1981 to 1988. I have one with four wheel drive and FEL. It is a great little machine. Would you be interested in selling the brochure you have for them?

Ken, the brochure isn't specific to the JD 650, it covered all of the smaller tractors made by JD at the time. I'll scan a page or two and post them as attachments so you can see what the brochure contains.
