Deisel Fuel in storage

It appears from my reading that there is a preference for using plastic instead of steel for storing deisel. Here in Australia the quality of deisel fuel is not always consistent. I am very concerned about water contamination and therefore would appreciate your thoughts on best storage practice.

Plastic and diesel both suffer from UV light.

My choice for long term storage is metal, with appropriate biocides in it.
