Thanks, powerscol. I will repost my question over there. The manual on this mower is only part useful.

Good Morning Mr. Davis,

Your beautiful flail mower appears to be the either the Del Morino Farm 214C model which has an 85 inch cut or the 214M with hammer knives with the 85 inch cut.

Would you mind verifying this by looking at the model number on the flail mower shroud or even posting a picture of the information when you have a free moment?

No worries Mr. Davis, you are now a proud resident member of the "Flail Mower Nations" and we can help you with just about any issue with your flail mower.

Good morning, Leonz

You are correct. It is the 214c model.

In regards to greasing these mowers, how often and how much is best.

Thanks for the reply,

when I mow with mine I usually mow then grease with 4 or five pumps and no more in the flail mower rotor bearings and with your rear roller I would not pump more than 3 shots in each bearing.

Be sure to take the V belt guard cover off and vacuum or blow the dust off. The comer cast iron gear box should have a level plug or sight glass in the side of the housing and be sure that the oil comes up to the edge of the plug hole or half way up the sight glass.

If you have to remove the plug use a 3/8 or half inch breaker bar and be sure to tap it in until it sounds solid
when you put the plug back in be doubly sure not to overtighten it as the gear box is a casting.
The spider/universal joints will take 2 pumps of grease at each mowing and no more.

Do not hesitate to take off the PTO shaft and wash the male and female ends with hot water and dawn dish soap to break up the fine dust bond that will collect in the male and female stub connections and the locking sleeve. After they dry out use a rag to wipe the grooves and balls or pin clean and then spray some fluid film on the male and female parts and reconnect it to the mule or if you need the mule for another task put a plastic bag over the female end and seal it with a rubber band.

Happy mowing, now if I can just get my JDLA115 stolen...………. I know where there is a JD 318 and a single stage snow thrower.

Appreciate the helpful guidance, Leonz. I look forward to many hours of mowing with this machine. Where are the spider universal joints you speak of?

These are located on the PTO shaft where it connects to the tractor and gearbox on the mower. Should be a grease zerk in the center of each joint. The U-joint or universal joint is what allows the PTO shaft to articulate.

Thanks, bullockcm. I assumed Leonz was referencing joints on the mower. :embarrassed:
