Delaware Finally Wakes Up And Opens Hunting For Coyotes

I'll take that bet......not likely. Killing a coyote takes some time and thought even if your hunting over bait. I don't doubt you have your share and I don't know why they would be protected ( I've read many times that killing them only brings more.....leaves me scratching my head).
There are not many people left that want to invest the time it takes to bag 1 yote, let alone several. Your state will most likely not allow hunting them at night with a light. That makes it tough as eastern coyotes are largely nocturnal.



Most hunters, given the choice, will hunt for meat to fill the freezer, not some mangy canine. I would be surprised if there are a dozen killed.

My state is Maryland. I was just posting this because as next door neighbors the two policies seemed counter productive. As for killing them bring more, only if you kill the alpha female. Kill one, hang it prominently from a tree on your property and the others get the message. Needs to be done 3-4 times a year though. I don't care about shooting or trapping them, but if they become an issue on my property I plan to make it as hard on them as possible. Here in Maryland I can shoot year around and we have a night season, but I can shoot one on my property anytime. My point in saying they'll get a hundred the first fall was more about saying there are a lot more than a hundred animals in the state of Delaware. There are a lot in parts of my county and the adjoining counties, several of which border Delaware, and coyotes can't read Welcome To Delaware signs.

I've spent a lot of time hunting coyotes. They are not easy prey. It takes a real commitment to be sucessfull with any consistancy, where I live.
I know a lot of hunters and less than one percent has any interest in hunting a coyote. I can't name one other than myself that has had any success.
It's a real challenge, epecially if you don't have large open areas of hilly terrain.
Here they don't even keep track of the harvest numbers. You can get data on the number of squirells killed, but not yotes.
I'll take the bet but I'm pretty sure that there won't be anyway to know how many actaully were harvested.
