- TC48DA (R1 tires) with 18LA FEL, HD bucket with toothbar, 2 rear remotes and grill guard
Vic,
I did get those tires a little dirty today. First chance I have gotten to do any work with it and I was really pleased. I pushed and piled several trees that had fallen out into the edges of some fields on the property so that mowing will be easier next spring. The FEL worked great and I was able to do whatever I wanted with it. I was really surprised by the FWD. It really made a difference. The rears began to spin a little (we had a couple of inches of rain earlier this week), so I dropped it into FWD and it didn't miss a beat. The toothbar worked great too. Grubbing up some stumps will not be a problem. All the controls (especially the joy stick for the FEL) were easy to use and properly located. I even got the hang of the shuttle shift, although I still would catch myself reaching down below the steering wheel occasionally to catch another gear. Old Ford 3000 habits are apparently hard to break. The transmission gears seemed tight initially, but they either freed up a little bit or I just got more familiar with the shifts. Seems like mid range in 1st or maybe 2nd worked at about the right speed at 1800-2000 for the loader work I was doing. Is that about right?
The only complaints so far are the placement of the grease fitting at the top of frame just to the left of the firewall. I got on and off the tractor today to saw limbs, etc. and almost everytime I found my right hand in grease near that fitting as a hand hold getting off. I just need to make sure and wipe off any excess grease. The other thing I noticed was the amount of "trash" that accumulated on the front and side parts of the grill. I had read a couple of posts about going through air cleaners. Not I see why. I didn't think it was that much "stuff" flying around, but there sure was a lot on the grill area. Not a concern now, but mowing on hot weather could be a problem. But it'll be a while before I'll have to worry about that.
Overall, real pleased. Just can't get enough seat time this time of year.
Oh yes, I haven't forgot about pics.
