Funny I had the same result with swapping out a blown engine on a lawnmower with a new one, and putting dino oil in it. No more problems. Could the new engine have had anything to do with it ?
Naw had to be the dino oil.

With my heavy equipment experience, I'd have to say that was excessively low hours for that to happen.. sounds like someone wasn't following good warm up / cool down procedures.... Even my 8th grade edukated construction workers know how to warm and cool a diesel to squeeze 10,000 plus hours out of it... While I wouldn't exactly call that 6000hr dead unit a 'high early failure'... I would call it a premature failure....

Should have just used synethic in your lawnmower to start with, it especially excells in air cooled spark ignition applications due to its great capacity to endure elevated temperatures without oxidative degradation., the direct opposite of dino oils.

Really doesn't matter, it costs megabucks for a 225-foot luxury yacht to be refitted with completely new turbodiesel propulsion system from stem to stern, just the downtime costs are beyond belief. Sure are happy to be 100% synthetic though, since in the subsequent 6,000 hours there have been no maintenance problems to report to Catepillar. 6,000 hours is only one year of operation though.....

Skypup, is that the best example you could come up with?

It was not my lawnmower. It was given to me by someone that never maintained their machines. It was less than 2 years old, since the new engine it has provided 5 years of service for me and is still going strong.

No one has provided any actual study data to show that synthetic makes engines last longer though.

Are you looking for some actual study data for your particular brand of lawnmower?
