Demand for an online parts website

/ Demand for an online parts website #11
I will try this one more time.
Not only is JD have there own on line parts ordering, they have purchased A&I Products to do the same in the after market. They have several people that work this site on a full time basis, it looks good but still has alot of mistakes. If you want to start something on your own they will be your competitor, along with other after market Ag parts companies. I say competitor because they publish retail prices. There is nothing better than a experienced parts man, an old scared up parts counter, a parts book with notes made by people that are long gone, and a customer with his free cup of coffee leaning over and conversing with somone that knows the model, year, and make of his tractor. This may be old antiquated thinking, but it still works.

Now Chuck, you better not let nomad hear that!! He figures the web will make even farmshows obsolete, let alone the parts counterman!! He seems to think if you can view it from the comfort of your home(or flying rug I'd guess) why go out and look at it in the outside world......

Have no idea why my post from yesterday was deleted /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif, but yes I would use it.
Thats the short version of it
Scan the parts catalog to give buyers a picture to relate to

In all seriousness, once yours is ready, after much developement. Kubota and NewHolland will both have them, (how can they not?!!)

In addition to JDParts, I use DaimlerChrysler's online Parts and Service Manuals all the time. We would NEVER go back to paper...

At the Deere dealership we have to keep the paper around because not all the older parts are listed in the EPC. I like the electronic parts manuals too. Easy to use and easy to blow up diagrams.

If the manufacturers are smart they will develop their online parts application as a web-based application that customers can use, not just dealers.

I kinda expect them to not be too far behind either. They don't persue web applications for dealers to use because they are too slow. All ours are based on a local server.

I should have used 'browser based applications', in other words people (neither the dealer nor the customer) would not need any specialized software on their PC to use the application. All they'd need is a browser.

Neil,

I use a supplier in Canada which allows you to download an acrobat PDF file of their catalog either complete or by section. They have over 8000 items to choose from. It works great. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
