Certainly not a criminal aspect. You cannot prosecute for something that the state says is legal. You could only be prosectued if you violated your load limit. How can a lawyer possibly know anything about load limits? He even says he doesn't know so once again it's his opinion.
Secondly you can tow 30k and not be over your axle or your tire load limits. Your pin weight and total weight of your trailer are two total separate things. Heck you can tow 50k and still not be over your pin weight which would have no adverse effects on the axles, tires, etc. As far as the drivetrain goes it's EXACTLY the same on a 250, 350, 450 , 550. What you get when you go up are increased pin weights. STILL the same truck! You gain nothing in overall towing capacity, other than to load the pin more. If you don't overload your pin you can successfully tow the state req. for increased loads. If you are stopped by DOT then you have to follow these quidelines. I suggest you look into all of this before you condemn people that know what they are doing. You have to have your brakes in working order, lights, connections, etc. For people that know what they are doing and get the proper req. it is both safe and completely legal. Do you really think as **** as states are that they would really let these trucks haul these loads if it wasn't safe?
