"Unless you have some crystal ball or something"

Oh, I don't have a crystal ball, I got better than that, 3 crows, but I need neither them nor a crystal ball to know exactly what happened in this case. Like I said, we are missing some info, either someone else used the machine, the dealer had done it in servicing, Viper did it without realizing it or whatever, nonetheless, show us a picture of a flexed frame in NORMAL operation such that the crossbar hits the hood or the tractor flexing in it's frame so much so that the hood buckles, that is a triple dog dare, come on. If I am wrong, I will eat crow. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif J

I never said the frame was flexing, that was someone else. I said perhaps some part of the loader frame was moving and hit some of the frontend sheetmetal, putting pressure on the hood.

If the hood don't fit, you must acquit! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I rate this thread 9 boxing gloves !!!!!!!!! I believe that it is a conspiracy and that we should convene a Grand Jury to determine the facts....... after all, only in a Grand Jury investigation can you make the outcome what ever you wish...... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

None of this discontent would be occuring over the 'cross bar' issue if Viper had bought a Deere or NewHolland. No cross bar, no argument /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I don't know if anyone has suggested this or not, but here's something I do on a regular basis... When I notice a new dent or scratch on one of our cars, I roll the kids toys and bikes over next to the damaged area and try to line one up with the damaged spot. I can almost always figure which toy did the damage.

What I suggest is this:

1) Viper should detach his loader
2) Drive backward a little bit
3) Operate loader controls to bring crossbar closer to hood
4) Look to see if the bar precisely matches the damaged area

Disclaimer:
I'm not sure how Kubota loaders work, but this technique would work on my New Holland.

Naa, just having some fun with Ol' TC. He does get pretty fiesty.

Feisty or not, /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

"3) Operate loader controls to bring crossbar closer to hood---"

if he does that again without putting the kickstands down he will have a second set of dents in the same place /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif and meanwhile, as clearly demonstrated by several pictures there is no part of the loader that comes anywhere close to the hood during operation. The only time the loader comes close to the hood is when you remove it without putting the kickstands down at which time you will likely have a dented hood /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.

As to Mr Worms idea, if I had my choice of a dented Kubota or a plastic NH or JD, I will take the dented Kubota /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

As to Mr Viper, looks like he needs to visit a body repair shop. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif.

As to a grand jury, no, I was thinking along the lines of a TBN independent prosecuter /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

Jerry:

I have read this whole thread and my conclusion is that the poster didn't put the support legs down and began to dismount the FEL.

My 3710 had a cross bar and I laid the loader down on the hood one time. All it took was one time. I didn't dent it, but if I had continued to apply hydraulic pressure to roll the bucket back to lift the side arms, it would have dented the hood--in exactly the same place as the pictures.

No wonder the dealer said no way he was going to fix it. Most certainly operator error!!

Daryl,
I do believe that we have come to the same conclusion and it sounds as if TC has also. Tell me something, would the steel in the uprights need to be a heavier gage or would they or the pedestals need to be redesigned to do away with the crossbar? I have never looked the Kubota loader system over that close.

Looks exactly like my B2410 hood when I forgot to put the kickstands down.

/ Dented Hood Help! #71
I dented my hood on a b7500 the exact same way. I dented mine installing the loader off my dolly. The bottom line was the cheapest way to fix it was order a new hood, which I did. Cost about 200 bucks as I recall and I am very carefull now when installing the loader. My conclusion is that this was made by the cross bar...this is based on personal unfortunate experience x 200...

look guys all i have to say is that the spot where viper's hood is dented is the exact spot where my dad crushed the hood on my 2910......twice! my hood hase been hammered out twice, and has some bondo on it, but its a tractor. remember girls love scars!

oh yes he crushed the hood while trying to take the loader off without deploying the kickstands.

hope this helps.

Jerry:

On the 3710 that I had previously, the support legs had to be pinned or they would rotate, allowing the crossbar to contact the hood as you rolled back the bucket to lift the arms from the loader sockets that were attached to the tractor frame.

Actually, they were plenty beefy enough, with nice foot pads, just like the ones on my LA853. The difference is on the LA853, you must rotate the legs into an OFFSET hole and then pin them. Kubota also did away with the crossbar and the front mount so the loader essentially only mounts on 2 sockets.

There is absolutely no way to flex the side frames on the loader that was on my 3710 or on the 5030 for that matter.

One way you could sit the crossbar on the hood was by actually missing the sockets during a remount or by attempting to dismount the loader on extremely uneven ground. if the arms versus sockets aren't in the same plane, the arms could jump to the side of the sockets and drop the crossbar on the hood with a bang.

I think I stated in a thread to someone interested in a 5030, to dismount the loader on a LEVEL, preferably concrete or asphalt pad. It can be very tricky to remount if the loader is not on the same plane as the tractor. I know. I actually had to pin one side of the loader and drag it to a level spot and unpin it. Then I set the loader in both sockets. If I had had a crossbar loader, it would have dented the hood at that point.

Wonder how this situation ever worked out.....?? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

His first post was on 11/18/03 and his last post was on 11/20/03 and all the posts in between were all on this one thread. Guess that he didn't like what we had to say and he took his marbles and went home. I think that my suggestion of convening a grand jury to hear the evidence was a sound suggestion, however since it wasn't seconded, the motion just died. So be it, we have much more important business on the forums to deal with, such as Henro's thinking about drilling his ROPS. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The crossbar did it 3birds!!! I think he didn't notice it and when he dropped the front end with the bucket he hit it...the dents show way too proof!!! I wonder if he actually looked under the crossbar ??I'll bet the paint has the telltale proof....
Anyway i'd leave the hood jist like it is and it'll always b a grim reminder of what happens when u forget yer kick stands... My iseki soes not have a crossbar but have never removed the fel and think i will figure out how to build some for mine at some time /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wow, this is an oldie--but I had not forgotten cuz I am still waiting to have my Triple Dog Dare satisfied. I want to see the flexible frame too /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif. Yes, the underside of the crossbar should probably have some scuff/scratch marks on it. Good observation Polecat /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. The powder coat or paint is pretty tough however so there might not be a scuff that could not be rubbed out.
I hope he got it fixed or dealt with to his satisfaction. J

doubt it as he hasn't been back and i don't care how good u r with a buff job the dents and even the trivial scars done to the underside of the crossbar may be able to be blended but will always have a blemish and will b especially evident afta a waxin!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
