derating a trailer gvw in illinois

I have two trailers that were derated. #1 to 9950 pounds from 11,000 pounds. #2 10,000 pounds from 14,000 pounds. I think they figured the original rating from the axles. The tandem axles for each trailer were rated at 5,500 & 7000 pounds respectively. Called each trailer's manufacturer, they sent a new plate after I sent them the old plate. Downside is can't use the full load without being legally overweight. Easy peasy ...

Anyone done this in Missouri? I have a 32 foot enclosed triple axle that would be nice to lower to 9900. I only use it for racing and would be nice to not be over the 10,000

32' enclosed triple... and you dont load it over 9k? Im going to with ya, no. THat thing has to have a curb weight of 5000lbs. then you put a 3000lb race car, and 3000lb of tires, tools, generators,fluids.... id be surprised if your under 12K let alone close to the rated 17K? cap (if you have little 5200lb axles)

Sorry but it's just over 8900 loaded It's a dragster Not a dirt car set up. No spare tires No large fuel supply,no large tool set up, Just a long lawn dart.

Go to the MO Sec of State/DMV and ask.
Ask some of your racing friends if they've derated theirs.
