I would like to make the deutz owners aware that there engines have a Bosch fuel system.
Similar to the CP4 used on many late model pickup trucks and VW cars.
You need to be adding a fuel additive for lubricity.
I did not and had a fuel pump failure at 1700 hours. 6 years old.
Just out of warranty
Not that the dealership would be much help anyway.
Three months before they could look at my tractor.
Repair parts alone are over $6000.
You can add two stroke oil to your fuel and it will save your pump.
The low sulfur fuel we are forced to burn in the US is destroying these pumps.

How many hours were on the tractor when it failed? 6 years?

Did you look at getting the pump rebuilt vs replaced?

Is your injection pump/engine/tractor rated for 100% biodiesel? That may well be more lubricating than ULSD diesel, but could have additional issues, especially in the winter.

I add Amsoil diesel additive, adds lubricity. Thanks for making me check.

It’s a CP4 pump
Google it.
It has a steel piston running in an aluminum cylinder.
When it fails it’s catastrophic
Puts metal in the whole system,clogging the injectors.
Only way to fix it is to replace the entire system.Deutz sells a kit

Hmmm, so the CP4 pushes higher pressure than the CP3, which is supposed to improve the atomization of the diesel in the injectors.

And thus a cleaner burning engine, and perhaps more power and less waste.

It appears as if there is erosion of both the injector cylinders, as well as the cam and cam follower. And thus a pretty well trashed injection pump. Perhaps all related as the pump starts shedding metal internally.

The CP4 is widely used. Not only the Deutz, but also a large number of small vehicle diesel engines.

And the failure rate is somewhat higher in the USA than in Europe. One article suggested around 1% in Europe and 7% in the USA.


Both fuels are a type of ULSD, but the European fuel seems to have more lubricity.

People seem to be recommending:
* Clean Fuel
* Dry Fuel
* Fresh Fuel
* Replacing Fuel Filters Regularly
* Never, ever run your Fuel system dry.
* Adding a fuel additive (I won't recommend any specific additive. The article above was linked because it contained interesting information, not being brand specific).

There is at least one, or perhaps several class action lawsuits related to the pump.

While I do have a few things with diesel engines, nothing I own is new enough to be equipped with the CP4.
