Re: Device on line that allows PCs and Phone toget
If you are currently using a regular dialup, you might look into an ISDN line. It (using full blown version) has 2 seperate phone lines termintating into a "terminal adapter" (modem for lack of better word)
Speed with 2 lines is 128K (digital), you can plug phone or fax into your lines also.
If internet needs speed, it will ramp up second line and get to 128K speed (up and download). If during that speed, someone calls in, or sends fax, it will automatically drop that line, go back to 64K access, and let you talk on phone/other. When you hang up, that bandwith is then available for the internet, should it be needed.
My guess is, ISDN isn't as practical for you as it is me, state of Tennessee I'm told, has the lowest ISDN rates in the country (so sue me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif )
Look into it. Should you decide you like it, I have a spare terminal adapter you could have for about the price of postage and a smile.
Also.. you can get the "lanmodem" version (not the one I have available) you can plug multiple pc's into it and share the bandwith between them. Our last office, had 15 people and used one single line for all. (I set it up, after SPECIFICALLY asking the boss if I could kill 5 dedicated phone lines, and he in his wisdom said no... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif, soooo, I did it ANYWAY /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif and they LOVED the extra speed, AND the money saved by terminating the extra phone lines) nothing like shunning the boss after getting a specific answer to a question... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
