I presume you know that Black & Decker owns DeWalt?

My last 18v battery from the DeWalt store/service was about $80. I had hoped for a litle better deal than Home Depot, but no...

I also got the 12v charger for the truck. Works great. I am still curious how they get it to charge a 18v battery. I wonder if they charge pump??? Most cell phones work that way. Flash chips, used for storage in cell phones, internally take 12v to program. The cell phone runs sub 3v. So, internally to the chips, the "pump" the voltage up with charge pumps.

We lucked out and bought 3 lifts of 1/2" plywood thru Home Depot about a week before the shortage hit. We got the plywood at $10.50 a sheet and now the price is upwards to $20 a sheet. Still have about 100 sheets left but about 40 more will be used up next week and the rest will be stored till we need them on another project. I still don't belive how high OSB went again. Last time I checked HD it was about $15 a sheet /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Talked to a guy two weeks ago that orders for the local lumber yard where I am getting my materials from and he had just got back from a georgia pacific conference down south. He had been told that there was alot of material getting ready to be shipped out to Iraq and Afganistan. Between that and this hurricane and the interest rate rising I am having quite a time hurrying up with this house.

So much for hunting season this year. Up side is that the wood is all in and down to the last 20 acres of hay to cut and haul. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Yes, I was aware of that. Still surprised me that they used the exact same part numbers when supposedly you buy DeWalt you are buying the "premium" brand. Guess it is kinda like buying a Lincoln Aviator, it is still a Ford Expoder underneath. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Richard thanks for the link thats one of the best articles I've seen in quite a while on batteries. I think I'll print it show it to the wife maybe now she'll believe at least some of what I have told here about the 18v Dewalt and other battery pwrd stuff...

But i doubt it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

funny note he had in the article about fellows draining them dry.
I had an electrician swear to me about 2 weeks ago it was the best thing he ever tried... I just smiled and walked on. No point in starting a fuss over something I couldn't prove.... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I suppose as long as he's happy alls well...

( Heres a little info on batteries. Note in particular the last paragraph. I know many folks that did this.
)

I have always drained my batteries before I recharged them. I have been using cordless drills for over 14 years that way. I bought my first Makita 9.6 volt way back then and I still have it (not the original battery though), along with many other cordless tools. I know I didn't start draining them fully just for fun. I am sure that the owners manual stated to do so otherwise I wouldn't have done it. Now maybe they wanted people to drain them so that they would have to buy more batteries. Either way, the method has worked well for me. I have had to buy replacement batteries for some of my tools but not that frequently. I just replaced a 9.6 volt Makita battery (the straight stick kind) a few months ago. The battery I was replacing had Dec '96 scratched in the bottom of it from when I bought it. That is not too bad for battery life as far as I am concerned. I keep my tools in my work van and they go through freezing weather and extreme heat. I am not opposed to changing my habits as long as it is benificial to my tools. I would like to see some more information on the subject.
