His original choice was the honda. He really wants a honda engine & was looking for more quality in the generator section than some of the lower end units.

For lower wattage uses and a nice quiet generator with a Honda name on it, don't dink around. Get the real Mc'Coy, the ridiculously quiet EU line from honda has very clean power and the Honda reputation. You can use these generator for much more than backup emergency power.

A quiet generator is always better than a loud one but there is very little in between. You pay for that quiet. Most of the time it is worth it but sometimes it is not, one of the times it is not worth it for me is when you are talking about high wattage and/or emergency needs.

Again, depending on the use of the power made by the generator it may not matter how clean the power is. If he is running a computer with this power source then I would again recommend the Honda EUi line for clean steady power. A contractor generator like the dewalt won't have a waveform as clean, frequency as steady, or voltage as consistent as the honda inverter series. Running a light bulb, well pump, or fridge is within the tolerances of most any generator out there.

Have used the Honda EU series for several years now........TOTALLY dependable.....Yes, one has to take it off of idle when running a welder out in the field.
I mainly use it for going into the back country with my Airstream and there it is fantastic. Folks around me at campsights are amazed that we even have a generator running as they dont hear it...........It powers that A/C just fine while using the other appliances............Gas consumption is about a 5 gallon can of gas per day.....or less..........
NO it will not power 220 by itself............one hooks up a second generator in series for this......Honda provides an accessory wiring harness to do this............I honestly dont know if it provides enough power even then to run a well pump or home A/C...........Dennis

Hooking the two up does not give you 240V. It simply gives about twice the wattage. The hook up simply synchronizes the two generators. On the other hand, there is the EU7000i, it's 120/240V and is very quiet. I tried using my Honda EU3000i with my little Millermatic MIG 90, but it just did not have enough. I now have a Honda 3500watt contractor type. It does have 240 and can easily run my 240V well pump.

They make 110 volt well pumps and this may be a consideration for the next time you replace your pump. Your home AC needs mucho power. More than most any portable generator can put out. A PTO generator would be the ticket for that.

A Honda EU2000i can be purchased from Mayberry's for less than 900$ delivered to your door. This sounds like the best option for your friend unless he needs 220 to run something.

You know, I really like the idea of these new constant pressure well pumps. The Honda EU 7000i looks like it would be a wonderful backup generator. Not only is it quiet, but for those not familiar with inverter type generators, the engine only runs as fast as it needs to. It can be at idle to full RPM and generate full 120V and/or 240V. The wonderful thing about the EU3000i is that even at full RPM it is quieter then almost any thing else that is at idle. It is that quiet. I only sold mine because of the well. It was superb to have though in the summer when our only means of cooling was an evaporative cooler. Once it got the electric motor going, it quickly idled down and could run for about 12 hours. I think it held 4 gallons of gas. As much as I hear folks talk about the inexpensive Coleman type generators which certainly have their place, the loudness is something I will gladly save and pay extra for to get a Honda inverter type.

I purchased mine from lowes about 3 years ago. 5000 watt for $500.00. It has a B&S vanguard engine & it is a quiet running motor . might be more than $500.00 now . It has given very good service . Used for emergency power only.
