Dialects, got to love them

I went into Home Depot to get a box of "Rid" enzyme treatment for our septic tank. I asked the young female clerk where I could find the "Rid" septic treatment. She took me over to the section where it was located, looked around and asked"

"Is the name of it 'Rid' or is it the color 'Rid'?"

I said "That's the name of the product. R-i-d! Where you from, Alabama?"
She smiled, blushed, and said "Yes"...and we both had a good laugh.

In my 23 years in the US since migrating from Norway in the late 90's, I've had a lot of fumbles. Language isn't just the language, it also involves a culture and history. So man words and references to pop culture and tv-series I didn't have a clue about.

That's OK, I've been in the US since the day I was born over 62 years ago , and still don't have a clue about most of those same references from the last 30 years.

Robin Williams played a pretty good scotsman both in his description of golf (hilarious and accurate) and in the movie, i married an ax murderer....something like that.

I remember in the movie at the wedding the bag pipe player passed out drunk and the very scottish dad started yelling...A piper is down......very funny
Just a correction: it was Mike Myers (Anglo Canadians say the 'out' sound the same as a Scot)

I'm guilty of this as well. I remember music fairly well from my teens and twenties, but i wasn't around much TV or movies until my early 40s and i don't pay attention to them.
