Ok, just another reminder of what can be out there when you're running the tractor in the woods or fields. This one was killed in Georgia, not Texas LOL. Somehow I don't think those snakeboot's would have done him any good had he been bitten in the lower leg. :( Be safe out there!!!

Holy cow! The stuff of nightmares. I've seen huge rattler skins for sale in trading posts in AZ, but never the snake they must have come from. The head on that thing is huge. Can't imagine what a dose of venom it would give.

I've got to ask---
Where did you get the picture?

Having been bitten my so many hoaxes in the past with regards to the large snakes stories..

Probably mistaken , But I believe ( Heard it around here some were ?? ) when bitten , That a small young snake can cause worse effects than a adult snake . Something about the venom being more potent at young stage than when older , although that darn snake would still leave one heck of a bite mark , like the size of a gator .:confused2:

I have heard similiar--- but the reason I understood is that an older snake just has learned how to control venom better....

Keep in mind the optical illusion aspect, with two objects in the frame, and one being much closer than the other (perhaps by as much as 6' .... )

The picture would look far different had the guy holding the snake held it out to his side, and both he and the snake were the same distance from the camera .....

Nevertheless, it is a big rattler ....

Notice how his left arm resembles that of a weight-lifter in action? Whaddya figure- 100 lbs or so held away from the body?

Man, that's a LARGE snake!

A full-grown Western Diamondback will weigh 10 or 12 pounds at the most. This photo is a clever illusion. The way it works is that the pole he's holding can't be seen since it's behind the snake. It's a fairly long pole and the snake is much closer to the camera than he is. Most cameras these days when used in Auto mode will have deep focus, so that all elements in the photo are sharply defined, making it hard to tell what's closer and what's farther away. This snake is maybe three feet long and that's being generous. Doesn't mean this rattler was any less dangerous when it was alive, but it really ain't as big as it appears to be in this photo at first glance.
