Don't be so hard on Rick - he was just trying to point out a valid concern.

The Commonwealth of Kentucky collects use tax for all internet, mail order or other out of state purchases that are made for which sales tax was not paid. There is a line on the state income tax return form that allows you to input the amount of use tax owed and add it to your total taxes owed. Of course, it is up to the individual to honestly record and report the total amount of non-taxed sales that need to be reconciled. That is how it is paid in Kentucky (of course I have no idea about how you would pay a use tax in Florida - do you guys have a state income tax?)

And in Kentucky, it wouldn't be the sales tax police that come to enforce the payment of the use tax - it would be the Revenue Department of Kentucky inviting you to be audited....and that is seldom good.

Good advice, Rick.

Ok since you are talking about a MF 451 from Brazil, the options do make sense. If the 451 is the one you like then take it with the shuttle, and hydraulic wet/clutched independant PTO. The dealer might have picked up the tractor from another dealer or one that was already enroute for stock. If so then he had no choice on what was on it. Those two options really make the tractor. These are both good options to take on the tractor.

As for the differences between the 1455 and 451. One is the largest CUT,where the other is a smaller Utility tractor. Built from different design philosophies of what the tractor does. The CUT should be nimbler and better able to operate in confined spaces. The Utility will be better at ag work, and should feel more stable and ride better. If both are mfd, you'll see a difference in front axle design. The rear drive will be different also.

Thanks,

It sounds like Kentucky operates the same way as Massachusetts. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Sorry to hear that! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the support. No one hates these laws more than I, but unfortunately (for now?), they are the law.

Thanks again,

~Rick

Cash or financed makes no changes to the price as far as we are concerned. The low rate programs are just that low rate and sponsered by New Holland not us. This is not like buying a car we do not have to participate in those low interest rates like the car dealers do. The cash deal is a misconception in the tractor business.

If a New Holland dealer is telling you it cost him money to finance for you he is messing with you!

I think that the main advantage to being hooked up to the Internet is information. There is a sea if it out there for free if you are not afraid to ask for it. I recommend getting a few quotes even before you go out your front door. I actually got my best price from a dealer located in NC and I reside in Ohio. I used that price as a tool to obtain my best local deal and price. I chose a local dealer for support but having done my homework up front made my job a lot easier.

Hi,
I'm also a NH resident, Merrimack specifically. I don't mind dropping names ;-) I've bought two Kubotas at this point, one from Chappell in Milford and the second from Hawkensen in Rumney. They are both GREAT dealers. I dealt with Cory Chappell at Chappell, and Steve Huss at Hawkensen. Both fine people and gave us a sqaure deal. The Chappell family in particular is very well know and respected in the area and give tremendous support to local charities and even host a major charity event on their own property every year. They were both even great to my 3 year old son who fires off more detailed questions than a Boston lawyer ;-) The other dealer you have no doubt seen in the state (they've bought up the other dealers) are a much more commercial opperation, owned by a couple of former .com millionares. I must admit I have bought a few small items and attachments off them over the years in a pinch. I've never bought a tractor off of them though, don't think I ever would, based more on gut feeling than anything else. Also, being a small family business owner myself, I'd rather support dealers running the same. So to sum it up, you wouldn't go wrong at either Chappell or Hawkensen. I bought my last one at Hawkensen, based on price and availability. I'd give them both a shot at my business again but I'd probably give the nod to Hawkensen, they usually come in a bit less expensive and go the extra mile on service. As far as dickering goes, I just don't do it. Just explain that you expect the best price and are only going to accept one price. Works for me on most things. Good luck on your decision.
Gary
