Did I come across a hydraulic motor oil pump

How can I tell the difference between a hydraulic motor or a hydraulic pump

From what I've been told, I think the pump will usually have a large input port size and smaller output port size. Motors are usually same-sized ports.

That is true for most pumps but unfortunately not all of them. Some of the smaller gear pumps will the same size inlet and outlet.

Is this a gear, vane, or piston style unit? Like DL suggests post a picture.

Some pumps are reversible, and some can be used as both motors and pumps, too.

The only way to know is with a part number or a tag ... manufacturer? Model number ? Series ?
