1526 HST - FEL and 3 pt rotary cutter

I was grading a small pile of sand/clay down to put in my drain field. I was going along learning as you go-pulling and pushing the bucket and glanced over at the hydraulic connections and fluid is is shooting out everywhere. I happened to have my 3pt engaged at the same time...don't know if this added to the problem. I took the 3 pt out of gear and relaxed on the FEL and it was not spitting fluid anymore. I got a call on my cell from the wife with an emergency up at the house, so I put the tractor in the barn. Now first thing out in the a.m. I will check the dipstick but does anybody recognize this as an overload or stress situation on the hydraulics. Appreciate some input.

Perhaps you bumped a hydraulic line on something and broke a hose or fitting. You will need to look it over really well to see exactly what the source of the leak is. I can't imagine that you could have torn up something up just leveling dirt.

I doubt you screwed anything up, it sounds like a hose is either loose or burst. Tractors have pressure relief valves to protect the hydraulic system. Check the hoses and connections where the leak is. I'm sure you will see what's wrong.

I agree!
Not to worry.

Tractors have closed hydraulic systems. Any time you see fluid on the outside of them, there's cause to worry. Even more so if it's "spraying". Hydraulic fluid under pressure can be injected under the skin and can lead to amputation of the affected body part or death.

Just pop off the connectors and pop them back on. Sounds like one isn't seated right.

Chill out.
His question was "Did he screw up his hydraulics"

CCWKen has valid concerns with the spraying under pressure. I've seen an airliner hyd. line blow and go thru a hand, when he blocked it from his face. It ain't pretty and under the skins fills with the fluid.

Oh, Yes I agree he has valid concerns.
Yes I am glad he mentioned it to someone whom might be inexperienced.
But worry? I do not think one should lay awake in bed worrying about it and how he is going to fix it.

Not sure Closed system helps the OP and agree there should not be oil external to the tractors hydraulic system-but iirc

(closed) hydraulic system is actually operated at rated pressure -open systems only operate at pressure when fluid is diverted to a load like a cylinder.
Maybe non leaking open system- would be a better description?
