Oil & Fuel Did I screw up the Hydraulics? New owner

Oh, Yes I agree he has valid concerns.
Yes I am glad he mentioned it to someone whom might be inexperienced.
But worry? I do not think one should lay awake in bed worrying about it and how he is going to fix it.
ch1ch2,
Thank you for your service.
hugs, Brandi

And Thank you Brandi.
I wanted to fly helicopters and seriously thought about getting into the Army and become a WOC.

I wanted to fly helicopters also but I did not have any collage at the time.
So, I was just plain ol grunt infantry.

No college for me neither (just A&P school)................that is why I (and you) would have had to become a WOC. What's a woc? It's something you throw at a wabbit! Warrant Officer Candidate. Even then, it was a long shot that I never tried. I don't regret it.

Not sure Closed system helps the OP and agree there should not be oil external to the tractors hydraulic system-but iirc

(closed) hydraulic system is actually operated at rated pressure -open systems only operate at pressure when fluid is diverted to a load like a cylinder.
Maybe non leaking open system- would be a better description?
That's funny. If you got to the second sentence, I think you know what was intended. You took it too literally.

I was going along learning as you go-pulling and pushing the bucket and glanced over at the hydraulic connections and fluid is shooting out everywhere.
This was my concern. While you guys might be of the "watch this" group, I felt it was worth mentioning the caution to learn as you go owners. The fact that the hydraulic system may or may not be damaged is not known at this point but for sure there's leaking fluid from something. But I'm impressed you can see that there's no damage from your chair.

Damage is a relative term.
If I have a broken hose, I do not consider my hydraulic system damaged, though it may or may not allow me to operate my tractor. It is a minor problem.

Kind of like if I have a flat tire, I do not consider my drive train damaged.

maybe just a tighten may help unless something is broken i.e. a line or fitting - or a loose fitting as old pilgrim said. do not worry but fix it or get it fixed before you do wreck something due to low fluid etc.

Mmm -where did I say there is no damage.?..
Here is hoping it is just a poorly seated quick connect or just a loose fitting.

just didn't agree with using the term closed system - to close to closed (center) system that's all.

Now after thinking about it a bit more, your terminology is correct-
especially after looking at some early 1900s tractors with open lube systems
i was in error equating closed hydraulic system to closed center hydraulic system

Probably crushed hydraulic hose, where they enter loader arm. Poor design imo. Damage to anything else is not likely, system holds 9 gallons.
