Did you get all the tire loading you paid for

Another thread we just posted to, a new poster asked how much for a certain sized tire. I looked it up in the Rimguard chart and it said 29 gallons for 3/4 fill. Another poster posted the Firestone chart and it said 34 gallons for the same sized tire for 3/4 fill. A delta of 5 gallons. Makes you wonder whose chart they followed.

Actually I do not know how much I was charged as it was included w/o a line item in the purchase price of the tractor. My main concern is the weight I am giving up. If indeed each tire can be filled with another 4 gallons that's 8x10.7= 85lbs. Really do not know if that is significant traction wise but it seems it could be.

85 pounds won't make any difference

Sure you can. Just get a tire pressure gauge designed to work with liquid.

Northern Equipment has them, and I'm sure you can find one at a good hardware store or farm equipment supplier. The main difference is they have a low pressure range, suitable for tractor tires, and a spring to force the liquid out of the gauge when you remove it from the fitting. You have to read it while it's on the fitting, or hold the stem when you remove it so it doesn't slip back in.

Oh okay, thanks for the info. I didn't realize they made guages to work with liquids, I'll check out my hardware store.

I wouldn't worry about it unless they were filled with something corrosive like calcium chloride. If the rim isn't completely covered, it will begin to rust and then bigger problems.

I once thought we were shorted some oil in a 55gal drum at work by the level of the condensation after coming off a cold truck. Opened the drum to find that the drum was full. The first few inches of the oil were above the dew point. As the oil warms, it rises to the top, so no condensation. You may have the same thing going on in your tires.

Interesting Dan. Not certain how I would apply this to beet juice but interesting none the less.

Thump it with your finger like you would a watermelon to test for ripeness.. the density change will be audible if you switch back and forth between the air and the suspected fluid interface.

Or, You could get your drill out and drill a hole just above the suspected interface and see what comes out. air or liquid.. Just kidding...:)

Scan with an IR thermometer to find the interface

Why couldn't you just park your tractor with the valve stem at the top to check the air pressure? They don't fill them all the way up.
