Did You See The Cicadas ??

Didn't see any for miles around my place, but stopped at a gas station about 10 miles West of here and they were almost at "plague" populations. A few actually flew into me and bounced off as I was pumping gas, and they were squashed all over the concrete at the pumps. There were trees across the road from the gas station that had them in great numbers. Did make a lot of racket..................chim

Hardly none in the south central part of Ohio. I think I seen more last year than this year so far. I was kind of disappointed with all the talk going on. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Been kind of neat to here and see. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Oh yeah.... as others mentioned - gagil-bizillions!!!

I live in Western Maryland and work in the Baltimore area - and the buggers where everywhere!! Crunchy, loud, obnoxious, get in your face, get into elevators, you name it!!!

During the height of their emergence, you could not be outside. It would hurt your ears. Our poor dog looked horrible having to listen to them all day long. We would have to bring him into the house to let his ears get a rest!!!

Attached is a picture of what emerged right behind our house. One day nothing, the next - we're here!!!!!

Terry

There were two or three small pockets around South Bend, IN, but nothing like 17 years ago. They think all the tilling of the soil, chemicals and new development has wiped them out. One woman who did have them in her woods told the local paper she collected over 160 pounds of them... I don't know why she would weigh Cicadas, if they were alive or dead, but that's what she said. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I never knew these bugs were so fascinating. Check out this website that has quite a bit of excellent information:
