The special spray paint that will stick to plastic is likely to cost as much as a new can, not counting your time to degrease the deisel contaminated red can so the paint has half a chance to stick. I've seen that paint go for 6$ a can.. and the cans go for 5.99 at TSC just a few weeks ago.

I can't see paying more to convert the can vs just buying a new one.. but it's his call and $$

But not if you already have some. My red jug is now coverd with a nice goldy color that's in our bedroom. Works just fine. :D I usually see yellow jugs for almost double of red.

And if someone gets into my garage and takes my diesel and puts it in their car...to bad for them!! Maybe it'll stall out close so the cops can catch them!!

a 99 cent can of yellow spray paint from wall mart does the trick for me.

Hope I don't come across stubborn or dismissing your suggestions, but as I said at the beginning: I've scribed 'diesel' all over the can in a permanent marker I already owned. Cost me nothing. And doesn't require yet another purchase of yet another plastic item to store in the garage. Until my wife decides she's going to help out with fueling the tractor (i.e. never), I'll be OK. And, as someone already suggested, if somebody comes into my garage and takes the can - assuming they can't read - it'll serve them right to get diesel. PS: the can's always empty.

Here in VT, you can still (1) pump your own gas and (2) use the handy lever to lock the pump 'on' so you can wash your windows or check oil while filling. Drives me nuts to go south and have to hold the pump handle the whole time. Not to mention paying more for so-called 'full service' - what happened to the attendant checking my oil and washing my windows?!

I don't think I'd want the burnouts employed by any of the local stations touching my car. I wouldn't even want them pumping the gas. I use a credit card to avoid having to go inside and witnessing the dumbing down of America.
