When I bought my first new truck, 1996 Dodge diesel, the dealer gave a year subscription to “Turbo Diesel Register”. Joined the local group of diesel heads who know a lot more than I. One meeting was at a local high end commercial/industrial diesel shop for a weekend tour. Most of the truck guys have tractors too. One of the best takeaways was the need of an lubrication additive particularly for low sulfur fuel. Clean water-free fuel filtering a must. Began using Stanadyne performance additive in truck and tractors. Gives an additional mpg with the truck and easily pays for itself. Quieter and strong performance in the tractors. Maybe more water collected in filters, something the additive claims. No repairs required in 8 Diesel engines since.

Ahh, yes... TDR.

I still say the best engines ever are the 7.3l Powerstroke and the 5.9l Cummins. Especially in the 1997-2001 M/Y trucks.

Between the sound and the power, they are amazing.

The funniest sounding engine was the 6.5l Detroit... sounds like a box of rocks jumping around... along with popping noises.
