I recently recieved a L3400. My dealer tells me to add a lubercant additive to the diesel fuel every time I get new fuel. I talked to three farmers in my area and they all gave me a differant answer. One said he puts the additive in only in the spring and the fall. Another told me not to put anything in the diesel. The third farmer told me he puts it in once a year. What is the real answer. What does everyone do to keep there kubota running properly.

I don't think you will ever find a consensus on this one! I use NAPA diesel fuel additive all the time in both my tractor and truck. Never had a problem. I tend to use more than I need. I run off road diesel in the tractor, so I am never really sure how "fresh" the fuel is or how much water might be in it.

Hope this is of some help!

BTW... Where are the pics of the new toy?

I'm not sure anybody knows, with the new diesel only being out such a short time.

I run Power Service in mine. I usually put it in during the summer, and I always use it in the winter. I see that you are in Maine, I would definately recommend you use Power Service (or something similar) during the winter to make sure your diesel doesn't gel.

Stanadyne Performance Formula. You can get it at any diesel shop. It has a lubricant, anti-cloud, and raises the cetane rating; good stuff. I run it all year 'round in my Cummins Turbodiesel.

Power Service (White Bottle). I run ULSD and use Power Service as recommended per bottle instructions; a "double dose" in Winter to prevent gelling.

i run power service in every tank in my kubota and cummins.
cheap insurance for piece of mind.
diesel has very poor lubricating qualities. most diesel fuel systems are cooled and lubricated by fuel. as little fuel as your L3400 is going to use an additive would be money well spent. it has lots of benifits. I can't think of one reason other than cost not to use one.

as mentioned you will get thousands of opinions. there is even a sub forum here on lubricants and additives. a search there will yield more info that you will ever want to read.

For some good info on fuel additives you might want to check out the oil, fuels and lubricants section of TBN. There are some good post there about additives.

I don't see why one would need to use an additive under normal circumstances. However, one might consider an additive in special situations such as:

- the need to stabilize fuel during extended periods of inactivity...

- the need to eliminate traces of water in the fuel...

- the need to prevent the fuel from congealing in extremely cold weather...

- a wish to clean the injectors periodically ...

-etc...
