Additives such as Howes or Kleenflo do two things , they add lubricity to the fuel and prevent freezing.

Ours gets it year round. Winter is most critical.

When you need that tractor at -40, the few dollars you spens is worth it

<snip>

Finally someone used the L word.

It seems many of the posters in this thread are happy running fuel which has had most of the lubricant removed.

And that may work fine for their engines and fuel pumps.

Just do a search "bosch fuel pump lubricity requirements".

It's been well established that US standards for lubricity result in scarring of Bosch fuel pumps which were designed for European fuel.

Volkswagen is almost famous for their HPFP failures on the Common Rail TDI. Most of us who have added lubricant (which could be as easy as using 5% biodeisel) have NOT had a problem.

I don't use it either, nor does my relatives or farmer neighbors...all without problems.

Buy good fuel in the first place, it already had additives in it...

I've traveled all over the US, and Canada, I've never got bad diesel yet...

OK, here's comes all the diesel horror stories, telling how they got bad diesel and bla bla bla ....... lol

The trolling begins. Just because someone has had a different experience or opinion on fuel additives does not make thier opinion "Bla bla bla". You need to learn some manners and stop posting stuff just to start slap fights. You seem to love to give you opinion but in the process you also love to take cheap shots at other people who have a different opinion. You aren't nearly as cool as you think you are. I love how you include your neighbors and relatives as if that makes any difference and we can't confirm it to be true. After your made up stories in the Branson threads it seems like you just say things to make people mad whether they are true or not. I suspect these claims are no different.

If you want to contribute please do but to simply post in an effort tell everyone how stupid they are simply to start slap fights I will be happy to continue to call you out on it.

There has been some good testing that confirms there are benefits to fuel additives, specifically those that increase lubricity.

I agree in michigan the temps can get -0 on a regular basis some winters.I use Opti-lube or stanadyne additives in my diesel farm tank.No gelling issues in the last 25 years.

Better read my post again, I wasn't trolling, I was stating facts... lol

Was YOU trolling when YOUR opinion differed from mine?? lol

I live where it goes below zero F, I lived in Alaska where it get's a lot colder in that and did just fine without additives, no jelling and when I did try using power service, it cost me an injection pump! I've told the details to that story several times here, no need to repeat it again.

I don't have to google it, I know of several places in Michigan that sell's NO E gas. Several in and around Muskegon, Grand Rapids, Hardy Dam, Onaway and many many more, all over the state.

Current prices are just a phone call away...

You will become a quick believer in aditatives when you are changing a frozen fuel filter when the temp is -25 been there and done that. I forgot to add it during the summer and cold weatherhit. Another one is alage. I had it in my skid steer and I bought NH fuel filters by the case. It took almost a year to get rid of it. It came from Bio fuel as many had the same problem here in the area. I no add it to all my fuel as soon as I get it here. No more Bio Fuel for me. When my tractor was delivered the service manager told me to run an addiative it it year around for water and lube to the pump
