diesel fuel Additives

I think this is the funnel you guys are discussing: Home Good filter - I have one, and a buddy keeps one in his light plane, for remote airfields. That said, with a known water contamination, I'll second what Soundguy mentioned - use a biocide as well. I think Power Service has an offering - any established Ag dealer (or heavy truck/equipment shop) should have biocide on the shelf. The stuff I bought was branded Case. I vote biocide in addition to the basic additives because: 1) I'm a Belt+Suspenders kind of guy. 2) Good as it is, I'm not 100% convinced that Mr Funnel can take out all the tiny bacteria that can cause problems (algae growth - can plug filters quick). 3) ULSD (and even off-road diesel has been low or ultra-low sulphur for a while, in most areas) is even more prone to growing bugs with water contamination. 4) "Ounce of prevention vs. pound of cure". Biocide is not that much more money to use, vs. the PITA of cleaning a contaminated tank/fuel system. Just my Canadian :2cents:, rounded up to a nickel. Rgds, D.
+1 on the biocide. Rick

Edit: I think it would be smart to add biocide and let it work before any further treatment and filtering.

My 2cents worth.

As I understand it, moisture in diesel encourages algae growth which can clog up an engine system. So if you have moisture/water, it's very susceptible to algae growth especially in warm weather.

I use a Goldenrod water and particulate filter and I haven't changed it yet in several years of use. My understanding is that they block the flow when they are used up, so as long as the flow is good, the filter is good.

I only put a lubricity additive in on the older equipment which was built before ULSD was mandated.

We have the Mr. Funnel F8 size. It can flow about 5 GPM which is sufficient for our use. Our diesel tank is on 7' stand so gravity flow is all we need. Everything that goes into tractors goes through funnel. If you were filling from a pump you might consider the 15 GPM model. Think it is F15.

power service makes a biocide. and makes a dispersant. diesel clear. I'd use both of those PLUS the white bottle power service to treat the fuel after seperating as much water out as possible by pour off and that mr filter.. etc.

I found it on Amazon a couple minutes ago. I will get the one with the two filters in it. After I receive it, I will filter all the fuel through it into a good container and then add some power service to it. Do I use the Power Service "Fuel Supplement" or "Diesel Kleen"?

I have one of the large Mr. Filter funnels (with the two filter elements). One of the issues with the Mr. Filter is it will not necessarily separate out water if the water is emulsified in the fuel. If your fuel tank has been sitting long enough for the water to sink to the bottom it will work fine but if you are working from a container that has gotten shaken or agitated it might not filter out the water.

Thanks you so much for that input. I went ahead and ordered the filter, supplement and the biocide. I had no idea that diesel can be so complicated, but this and other reasons is why I joined this forum. Thanks guys

I use a Biocide and Howse in my 300 gallon tank.
