Diesel Fuel/Galvanized Funnel

   / Diesel Fuel/Galvanized Funnel #11
I have been using a battery powered siphon pump that is intended to fill the kerosene heaters you would buy at the home improvement stores. As a matter of fact, they are usually sold side by side. Works prety well, and its cheap. dont know how high it will lift, if you have a deep drum it might be a problem. There are also the manual versions with a squeeze bulb at the top, their even cheaper.

I'm no fan of galvanized anything and diesel. Been there. I had so much zinc suspended in my fuel it looked like I poured mica in it. Granted, it was a brand new metal can and new offset galvanized funnel. Flat areas of the tank are still holding it. I'm still on that same fuel filter at 38 hours with no problems there or with the injectors. But I did drain that fuel out once I picked up on it. It still coats the flat surfaces of the tank. I just couldn't belive how much zinc was suspended in that fuel after just one 5 gallon fill. Did I say I don't use galvanized vessels anymore for diesel? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Shame, I do like steel. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a tractor funnel with a fine mesh brass screen from NAPA that is at least 25 years old and has never seen anything but diesel fuel. I can't see that any of the galvanizing is missing.
