this is all new to me, as i have never owned a diesel engine before. i have been told, in cold
weather if you do not use a special additive, the fuel will gel. i would like to hear from
some of the owners who have had their tractors, and have gone through the winter.
what kind of problems did you have?

William,

That's a good question and has has already been addressed many times on this board./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Do a search on "additives" and you can find a wealth of information on the care and feeding of diesel to your tractor, also diesel storage and what to store it in. The following is one informative thread.

There is no "special additive" which will eliminate cold weather related problems. Additives such as PowerService will reduce the pour point of #2 a little, but not much. The best bet for cold weather is to get switched over to #1 or a suitable blend (for your climate) of #2 and #1 before it gets cold. That's about all you can do without heating the fuel.

edit: Forgot to mention that there is a ton of info about diesel at Chevron's site http://www.chevron.com/prodserv/fuels/diesel/dieseltechinfo.shtm

The people who make diesel are probably as good or better source for info as any.
Edited by cp1969 on 09/23/01 09:13 PM (server time).
