Oil & Fuel Diesel Gal/Hr

JimBinMI - I understand your feelings about your dog. How are the kids about it? 14 and 12 are pretty rough ages to deal with things like that. Not that it's a lot easier as you get older, for that matter, I guess.

We've got a Himalayan cat ("Butterscotch") to keep the Pomeranian dog ("Cinnamon") in line. (You can tell what we think about around here.) It's enjoyable to watch them horse around. They're a lot of company.

MarkC,

The first time I took him to the Vet and warned the kids ahead of time, since he was paralyzed from the waist down, that I didn't know if I'd be bringing him home or not and they got pretty emotional. $400 and several days later he was better and walking then about a month later he became paralyzed again, the doctor had told us that they could do surgery for several thousand dollars and that's when I took him and had him put down. The kids are OK now but we still miss Dudley and reflect fondly on his time with us.

Our cat used to keep Dudley in line when he needed it too!

When I posted my fuel consumption before, I was guesstimating how much was still in the barrel, but I had to buy another barrel of diesel yesterday, so I was able to get more accurate numbers and found that my fuel consumption has been .705 gal/hr for the first 191.7 hours.

First 100 hrs on my TC33 has worked out to 0.7 gal/hr. I made an attempt to refine this as a function of the type of work but I'm afraid I lost control when my dear wife took over brush hogging! I have noticed very significant variability in this and for my work, the toughest duty is clearly brush hogging. This consumes 1.0 gal/hr. I do have a hydro, some hills, and run the front higher (maybe I have thick grass too - it's still green in MI!). This contrasts with light duty work where I end up around 0.5 gal/hr - I used between 2 and 3 gal in 5 hr today with light loader, scraper, and auger work (18 postholes and lots of carrying things hither and yon). Some good news is the price of gasoline in my area has dropped 60 cents in the past 3 weeks - price of diesel has dropped 2 cents!

Mark, Wen and others,

Here is a very small sampling for my New Holland TC18 HST 4x4 (18.5 hp)

At 80 hours on the meter, I filled it up. Today, at 85.5 hours it took roughly 3 gallons to fill it up. So, 3/5.5=.545 gallons/hour. The 5.5 hours were mowing at 2450 rpm and moving fill sand at about 1800 rpm.

I purchased 11 gallons in two containers today and will keep record for those 11 gallons and report back. I'm impressed with this economy and am sure it uses less fuel that my old gas 16 hp Kohler that was in my garden tractor.

JimBinMI - Sounds like you're burning a miserly amount there. I expect you're right - I'd bet you're burning about half what the 16hp gas Kohler was, in fact.

Yeah, Mike, whether it's working hard or not does make a difference. Mine used more than the average the last couple of days, too, brush hogging really thick and tall grass and weeds. Of course, most of it wasn't taller than the wheels, but I actually had a little Johnson grass as tall as the canopy. I'm not real fond of driving into stuff like that where you can't see a thing and don't know what you might run over, but fortunately there was nothing unusual in it.

I've got four more GPH averages to report: a 7.5 hour sample at .77 GPH, a 15.2 hour sample at .69 GPH, an 11.3 hour sample at .69 GPH, and a 28.1 hour sample at .73. My overall average consumption, for the life of the tractor, is .69 GPH. Pretty much all of these samples were from very hard usage at high rpms, doing work I've described elsewhere: Pulling up trees, digging with the loader or tiller in very hard soil, moving boulders, bush-hogging, etc.

Guys,

Here's another sampling from the Mighty NH TC18 Hydro 4WD.

Went 24 Hours on 11 Gallons = .4583 Gallons/Hour!

Sounds GOOD to me! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
