You guys know what you're talking about when it comes to oil. My calibration is more looking, smelling and rubbing between thumb and forefinger. It is good to hear how exactingly it can be done. Thanks

I was in Hawaii in 71 to 73. I was on the CGC Planetree, 180' costal bouy tender. I did use the viscosity comparator on all my units after I left there also. When on long trips we had other oil test equipment on board we could use.

Yeah, back in the day there wasn't spectrographic or TBN analysis, All I checked for was fuel dilution, coolant contamination, soot, and acidity. Had a real cute little centrifuge too. The one thing that job assured me of was that I always had something at mail call.
